Del City accident reports: supervisor review, CARFAX and the Records Office

By Jason Hicks

405 Injury is based in Oklahoma City.

Short answer

Short answer. Del City Police accident reports are purchased and printed online through CARFAX for Police once a patrol supervisor has reviewed and approved them, which the City says typically takes 5 to 7 business days. Other police records are requested from the Records Office with its request form, and the office currently accepts cash only.

Del City is in Oklahoma County, with a 2024 Census population estimate of 21,272 (U.S. Census Bureau, Vintage 2024 city and town estimates).

How a Del City accident report becomes available

  1. Review. "Reports must be reviewed and approved by a patrol supervisor before they come to the records division. Typically, it takes 5-7 business days for reports to be available for release to the public."
  2. Online purchase. "The Del City Police Department now partners with CARFAX for Police, which allows you to purchase and print your accident reports online." The City's "Accident Report Request" link opens the Crashdocs.org request page for Del City.
  3. If the online report won't load. The City says to "contact the records division at 405-671-8848 for assistance," or email scluck@cityofdelcity.org.

Other agencies that may have the report

  • Oklahoma County Sheriff's Office: the county's Open Records Request page lists a Sheriff's Office contact for open records requests.
  • Oklahoma Highway Patrol (OHP): OHP has primary authority and must investigate collisions on all interstates, including inside city limits; local police authority there is supplemental. State law directs OHP "To investigate and report traffic collisions on all interstate and defense highways and on all highways outside of incorporated municipalities" (47 O.S. § 2-117(B)(10)), and the Attorney General's formal opinion addresses that duty (2025 OK AG 11 (Aug. 27, 2025)). Check the agency named on your paperwork. For an OHP crash in Del City, request the report from Service Oklahoma with the Collision Request for Records (Form 303RM-C).

Oklahoma law at the scene

At a Del City crash scene. In a crash that injures or kills someone or damages a vehicle someone is driving or attending, each driver must give their name, address and vehicle registration number, show their driver license and security verification form on request, and give reasonable assistance to anyone injured (47 O.S. § 10-104). If anyone is hurt or killed, the driver must give notice "by the quickest means of communication" to "the local police department, if such accident occurs within a municipality, or to the office of the county sheriff or the nearest office of the State Highway Patrol" (47 O.S. § 10-107).

Vehicle-damage crashes. From November 1, 2026, 47 O.S. § 10-103 covers "damage to property or a vehicle that is driven or attended by any person" (47 O.S. § 10-103, version effective Nov. 1, 2026). It requires the driver to stop, return to the scene if needed, and stay until the § 10-104 duties are met. Before November 1, 2026, the rule covered an "accident resulting only in damage to a vehicle which is driven or attended by any person" (47 O.S. § 10-103, version in force before Nov. 1, 2026).

Later written report. Except for collisions on private property, 47 O.S. § 10-108 requires a written report to the Department of Public Safety only "if settlement of the collision has not been made within six (6) months after the date of the accident", and "if a settlement has been made a report of the settlement must be made by the parties." The dollar threshold is $3,000 from November 1, 2026 (47 O.S. § 10-108, version effective Nov. 1, 2026). Before November 1, 2026, the statute's threshold was $300 (47 O.S. § 10-108, version in force before Nov. 1, 2026). Ask a lawyer which version applies to your crash. From November 1, 2026: "No report is required when all parties involved agree to exchange information and there is no injury, no death, and no damage to property other than vehicles."
