Midwest City crash records: city police, Tinker and the county

By Jason Hicks

405 Injury is based in Oklahoma City.

Short answer

Short answer. Midwest City Police accident reports are requested on the department's Records Request form, either at the Records Division or by calling it for other options. A crash on Tinker Air Force Base goes through base Security Forces, and a crash worked by the Oklahoma County Sheriff or the Highway Patrol has its own request channel.

OHP has primary authority and must investigate collisions on all interstates, including inside city limits; local police authority there is supplemental. State law directs OHP "To investigate and report traffic collisions on all interstate and defense highways and on all highways outside of incorporated municipalities" (47 O.S. § 2-117(B)(10)), and the Attorney General's formal opinion addresses that duty (2025 OK AG 11 (Aug. 27, 2025)). What the Midwest City Records Request form asks for

The City says: "To obtain copies of an accident and/or incident report in accordance with The Oklahoma Open Records Act, please complete the Midwest City Police Department's Records Request form. Citizens may obtain a copy of their report by either visiting the Records Division or calling the Records Division for other available options."

The Records Request form (a scanned PDF):

  • has an "Accident Report" box with the driver's name, date and location of the accident, and the note "(Complete reverse side)";
  • on the back, asks you to check the category you fall in, such as "Party involved in the collision" or "Legal representative of a party involved in the collision";
  • includes a "Motor Vehicle Accident Report Affidavit" stating the report "will not be examined, reproduced, or other wise used in any way for commercial solicitation purposes";
  • lists fees: "Additional Copies of Report" $0.25 per page and "Certified Copy of Report" $1.00 per page.

Duties at the scene

Injury crashes in Midwest City. If anyone is hurt or killed, the driver must give notice "by the quickest means of communication" to "the local police department, if such accident occurs within a municipality, or to the office of the county sheriff or the nearest office of the State Highway Patrol" (47 O.S. § 10-107).

At a Midwest City crash scene. In a crash that injures or kills someone or damages a vehicle someone is driving or attending, each driver must give their name, address and vehicle registration number, show their driver license and security verification form on request, and give reasonable assistance to anyone injured (47 O.S. § 10-104).

From November 1, 2026, 47 O.S. § 10-103 covers "damage to property or a vehicle that is driven or attended by any person" (47 O.S. § 10-103, version effective Nov. 1, 2026). It requires the driver to stop, return to the scene if needed, and stay until the § 10-104 duties are met. Before November 1, 2026, the rule covered an "accident resulting only in damage to a vehicle which is driven or attended by any person" (47 O.S. § 10-103, version in force before Nov. 1, 2026).

Except for collisions on private property, 47 O.S. § 10-108 requires a written report to the Department of Public Safety only "if settlement of the collision has not been made within six (6) months after the date of the accident", and "if a settlement has been made a report of the settlement must be made by the parties." The dollar threshold is $3,000 from November 1, 2026 (47 O.S. § 10-108, version effective Nov. 1, 2026). Before November 1, 2026, the statute's threshold was $300 (47 O.S. § 10-108, version in force before Nov. 1, 2026). Ask a lawyer which version applies to your crash. From November 1, 2026: "No report is required when all parties involved agree to exchange information and there is no injury, no death, and no damage to property other than vehicles."
